Ferrocene is an organometallic compound with an orange coloration, which affects the appearance of our products, meaning the blotters will be orange. However, this is not a cause for concern and has no impact on quality.

The first research results and feedback from our team and from our customers have been very positive, and we’re confident you’ll like the product as well.

What exactly is 1Fe-LSD?

1Fe-LSD (1-ferrocenyl-lysergic acid diethylamide) is the latest development in the field of lysergic acid diethylamide derivatives. It continues the line of well-known research chemicals such as 1P-LSD, 1cP-LSD, 1V-LSD, 1T-LSD, and most recently 1S-LSD.

From a chemical perspective, it is a classic LSD molecule that carries an additional group at the indole nitrogen position (N1). While earlier derivatives often relied on aliphatic chains or ring structures (as with 1P, 1V, or 1cP), 1Fe imitates an aromatic system similar to 1T.

The role of ferrocene

The namesake ferrocene is a “sandwich complex” in which an iron atom is positioned between two aromatic five-membered rings. This chemical structure is known in organic chemistry for its remarkable stability.

By attaching ferrocene to the LSD molecule, a new substance is formed that is chemically distinct, and therefore does not fall under the definitions used in the New Psychoactive Substances Act of Germany (NpSG) for previously banned substances.

Chemical structure & key data

Here you can see the exact structure of the molecule. The attached ferrocene group is clearly visible in the lower part of the structure:

For documentation purposes, we’ve summarized the most important chemical parameters here:

Full name: 1-(ferrocenylcarbonyl)-lysergic acid diethylamide

Short name: 1Fe-LSD

Molecular formula: C₃₁H₃₄N₃O₂Fe

Molar mass: 536.46 g/mol

Why are the blotters orange?

One detail many researchers notice immediately is the product’s color. Unlike the mostly white or cream-colored predecessors, 1Fe-LSD has a characteristic intense orange coloration.

This is not a sign of contamination or oxidation (as can be the case with classic LSD, which may darken with light exposure). The color comes directly from the ferrocene group. Ferrocene itself is a deep orange powder. Because this group is covalently bound at the molecular level, this physical property carries over to the final product.

For your product and your research, this means: a brightly orange blotter is a quality feature of 1Fe-LSD, not a defect.

The legal situation: Why is 1Fe-LSD legal?

In Germany, the legality of research chemicals depends on the specific definitions in the NpSG (Neue-psychoaktive-Stoffe-Gesetz / New Psychoactive Substances Act). The legislator defines prohibited substances based on their precise chemical structure classes.

When a substance such as 1S-LSD is banned, this is done by expanding the annex in the legal text, describing exactly which molecular groups at the N1 position of the LSD scaffold are not permitted.

The key point with 1Fe-LSD: the organometallic ferrocene group, due to its unique chemical nature (an iron complex), currently does not fall under any of the ergoline-related prohibition classes defined in the NpSG.

Status: This means that 1Fe-LSD, at the present time (as of early 2026), is legal in Germany to acquire, possess, and use for research purposes.

Note: Laws can change. We recommend that customers regularly inform themselves about the current status in the NpSG. As long as you can purchase 1Fe-LSD from us, it is definitely legal, because we continuously monitor the legal situation.

Storage and handling in the lab

Because 1Fe-LSD is a high-quality research chemical, proper storage is essential to preserve the integrity of the substance over long periods of time. Even though the ferrocene group provides a degree of stability, the golden rules for lysergic acid derivatives still apply:

Protected from light: Always store samples in the dark. UV radiation can cleave or rearrange chemical bonds.

Cool: Storage in a refrigerator is ideal.

Airtight: Use airtight packaging to protect against reactions with components of ambient air and to prevent condensation on the product.

Dry: Moisture is the enemy of almost any chemical compound in blotter form.

Stored this way, the product can be kept for months to years without significant loss of quality.

Conclusion: An exciting new chapter

With the withdrawal of Lizard Labs and the ban on 1S-LSD, the era of derivatives briefly seemed uncertain. But with 1Fe-LSD, a successor is now ready, not only filling the gap, but also becoming scientifically highly interesting through the integration of ferrocene chemistry. Its orange color also makes it a visually unique eye-catcher.

We’re happy to be able to offer this product in our shop so your research can continue seamlessly.

Within the team, and especially for Dan, 1Fe-LSD is currently the clear new favorite among the derivatives we’ve had in our range so far.

Disclaimer: The products offered, including 1Fe-LSD, are intended exclusively for research purposes.
